Tamil Chronicles of Aslan !!
Though I may not be the first one to notice and write about, but how many of us diehard Tamil movie fans have observed that for the last six months or so, it’s so strange that movies are stumbling upon with animal names? First came Chimbudevan’s - Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam, then Singam with Surya-Hari combo, with its success came Meera Jasmine’s Pensingam. Singam was getting so famous that a Malayalam movie was dubbed in Tamil with name Singamugam. Luckily before ending the year as Lion year, we came across a very refreshing Prabu Solomon’s Mynaa.
So jus wondering what all cud be the sanity behind this sudden love for animals in our movies. As a finance guy, first thot went to some uncomprehended Tamilnadu govt stimulus as reason, just like we have tax leverages for avoiding English names for movies.
With the New Year, we had some new animals. Actor Aadhi came up with Aadu Puli. He surely knows how to make a mark with the help of non-humans from his first movie Mirugam then changing over to a cop with some ghost hunting in Eeram. How cud be brother Karthi be behind Surya, he came with Siruthai. But the only movie which really had some animal in the film was Aadukalam with hen-cock fights. Director Vetrimaran did hit bulls eye this time with his last attempt Polladavan being a poor lift from Italian classic movie Bicycle thief. Was amazed to see even director Gautham Menon getting into the fray with a psycho thriller - Naduninsi Nayagal. Though many of my friends who had gone to see this movie came out laughing out of the wrong side of one's mouth, comparing it with Sivappu Rojakal.
Latest one is Jeeva’s Singam Puli. Though I wud have liked to add Sura and Endiran also in the list, but have no words to delineate them. Notable to hit the silver screen in coming months are Kullanari Koottam, Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai and Murattu Kaalai.
Though as a Tamil movie enthusiast, I don’t mind any names as long as movies like Mynaa and Aadukalam keeps me enthralled. Oh! now I realize that the current president of Tamil Producers Council is none other than Mr. Rama Narayanan with his filmy ventures with animal subjects. Is he pulling some strings or legs, hmmm ... instead of Shankar, had he been incharge of Tamil version of 3 Idiots, what name wud he had given it ...!?!?
